Get Adelaide Cakes & Adelaide Cupcakes

It's been a long time since I've written a blog post here and today is a step in a different direction as I discuss some delicious cupcakes I picked up in Adelaide the other day. So if you're in Adelaide and looking for some cakes or cupcakes you'll definitely want to look up Confetti Cakes By Steph. A home based cake business that is producing some delicious cakes and designs.

I'm not usually a cake person myself but definitely had me going back for seconds with the delicious range of flavours and styles that are guaranteed to impress all tastes.

July Payday

Squidoo gave us a nice early payday and from the reports I'm seeing across the forums earnings have stopped dropping with some people even seeing slight increases.

My payday was a couple of dollars higher than last month and since we are now starting to approach the back end of the year Squidoo's recovery will only continue. The only thing holding it back is the trust issues that are stopping well seasoned lensmasters from publishing new lenses.

June Payday

June Payday hit our Squidoo accounts the other day and was disappointing as expected with the continued Squidoo cleanup.

Thankfully I'm only back to 2012 earnings since I put in a HUGE amount of work over the past year on Squidoo. Of course this was meant to help me double or triple my earnings from there and instead it has just meant I've stayed the same. I'm more than thankful though as many lensmasters have taken huge hits to their earnings.

I'd love to talk about Squidoo some more but it has been discussed to death on both the official and Yuku forums. Which means that I don't really feel much like writing about it.

Instead I'm going to go play some BioShock Infinite and continue to invest all my time in my new website.

Why You Won’t See Me Touching My Squidoo Account For A While

Two blog posts within 10 days of each other? Now that is a new record for me here on my Sam The Squid Squidoo Blog.
As usual I’m just dumping thoughts onto my blog so take it with a grain of salt. But today I wanted to touch on my main concerns on the Squidoo platform and why I won’t be touching my account any time soon. I haven’t touched 99% of my lenses since early this month when I went through them all one by one to check for any issues in relation to the new Squidoo filters, mostly because of a motivation drain on Squidoo I’ve ignored my account.
I would like to touch briefly on the fact that my lensrank is going up and up despite my absence obviously due to the continued clean up (both deserving and undeserving lenses) and the fact that you no longer have to compete against accounts updating their lenses every single day.
Back to the whole point of this post the two biggest reasons you won’t see me on Squidoo anytime soon is twofold:

-A lot of motivation for building Squidoo was the idea that in a few years time if I decided to launch my own website I’d be able to use my long term commitment to Squidoo to give it a nice boost (as it would be related to my Squidoo articles). With Squidoo going NoFollow and no sign that they are going to add DoFollow back anytime soon, I’ve lost 50% of my motivation right there.

-The second reason is the most obvious and will be the one that most people relate with. The fact that Squidoo is going through extremely rapid changes and it’s hard to predict what the future holds for the site in terms of earnings. I have about a dozen article ideas left sitting WIP on my dashboard and previously my philosophy was to publish lenses that would make tier 2 on Squidoo (based on predictions) but if I didn’t feel it would make a tier 2 payout I’d post it elsewhere instead. With Squidoo’s earning drop the gap between a tier 2 Squidoo lens and it being published on other platforms or my own is becoming smaller. I’m financially minded and my choose of platform is generally focused entirely on a monetary decision although (NoFollow/DoFollow) does also come into it which reduces Squidoo’s attractiveness further as all the other platforms (HubPages, Zujava and Wizzley) offer me some DoFollow links back to my other articles ultimately strengthening my portfolio.
That about wraps up todays lengthy rant, my head is definitely clearer now. As a final note I’d just like to say that I love Squidoo and I have no doubt in a few months I’ll be back to publishing regular articles, I just can’t find that motivation currently (just like most lensmasters). But I can’t wait to get back to Squidoo and hopefully they’ll come through without losing too many long time lensmasters along the way and be a stronger platform in the end.

So... Penguin 2.0 Was Disappointing

I don't usually talk about SEO related things on my blog. This place is really just somewhere to dump my thoughts related to Squidoo and my websites. I don't go out of my way to promote my blog, have ads on it or even strive for informative posts (sorry guys!)

But I wanted to vent a little regarding the recent Penguin 2.0 update that Google recently launched. While its still early days it has been disappointing to see some websites within my niche gain rankings from the updates when they offer an extreme amount of spam and their backlink portfolios are even worse filled with unrelated comment spam, obvious paid links and just straight out pages of thousands of links.

I was holding out that Penguin 2.0 would change all that, but unfortunately it seems I'll have to wait for the next Google update, maybe Pelican? or Peacock? or Platypus? I can't think of too many other animals that start with the letter P.

It's still early days but my online properties seem to have done well gaining a spot or two here and there but nothing dramatic. The only platform I was worried about was Squidoo but thus far it seems to be holding its own thankfully.

Now that I've got that written down its time to go play some Borderlands 2 and work on my class specific guides that I'm hoping to publish in the next few weeks for the popular game.

May Payday & More Squidoo Changes

The other day was May payday at Squidoo. Tier payments were way down (back to 2010 levels) due to the reduced site traffic and continued site cleanup that Squidoo is performing.

Thankfully my earnings are holding steady thanks to the large amount of work I put in over December-January. While I obviously expected this work to help my earnings reach a whole new level it ended up just balancing out the reduced earnings. I can't complain though many other long time lensmasters have had huge earning drops across their accounts (and I would be one of them had I not worked my ass off for 2 months straight).

Provided Squidoo keeps going with the cleanup earnings will slowly start to pick up in the mid-end part of the year as they always do.

I'm happy with the progress Squidoo is making thus far but it still pains me everytime I visit the forums and see people posting about locked lenses. I always take the time to check out a cached version of the pages and some are definitely getting caught up by mistake which is unfortunate.

I still can't get over the fact that Squidoo should have been working towards site cleanup years ago when HubPages was first hit. Had Squidoo stepped up its game there and then they could have introduced new standards slowly overtime making it a better experience for everyone.

April Payday - Website Updates - Over Squidoo Community

Today was April payday for Squidoo, it fell about 15-20% short of previous months payment but that was due to the sharp drop in tier payments that occur during this time of the year (deleting a lot of lenses from Squidoo and the Google slap didn't help either).

It will pick up over the next few months as it always does and I've increased my number of tier 1 and 2 lenses with some recent tweaking (along with the fact that there is less junk to compete with, yay Squidoo!)

My website is growing nicely (Games Like Finder) it is a bit annoying that I can't really launch it with some powerful DoFollow links from my own Squidoo articles that I've spent 5 years building up, but hopefully that won't be too far away.

To finish off I realised today that I am just over being part of the Squidoo community in general and really miss the old SquidU forum. I can't really put it into words and I probably shouldn't but I just don't feel like I fit into the new forum or even the Yuku forum. Can't really explain it, but had to get it on paper (online paper anyway) and out my head.
