4 Simple Steps That Took Me From $0 to $150 In Monthly Sales

I'm ashamed to admit that in my first 4 years on Squidoo I sold two (maybe three) items, I had success with traffic and thus tier payments but regular sales still eluded me.

On my 4th Squidoo birthday I decided that enough was enough and I wanted to be at least making $50 of monthly sales by my 5th birthday.

So here I am just under 11 months later (my Squid birthday is in March) and I am happy to announce that I am now making $150 worth of monthly sales each month and averaging about 6 sales every day. Sure my traffic increased during the year but the key to the sales was 4 very simple things that I applied to all my lenses.

Hopefully they can work just as well for you.

1 - Amazon Sidebar Widgets
The first one is simply and easy. For those of you that aren't aware you can add up to 3 Amazon Spotlight style modules in your sidebar. For every one of my lenses I always fill up this section with items relevant to my lens or the audience I know that my lens will attract.

I find that short but insightful descriptions also work best in these side bar slots.

2 - Pictures With Amazon Links
This step also ties into crediting your images. Originaly I was using alot of game screenshots for my niche (under Fair Use) but instead I now replace these with the game box and link the image to the same product on Amazon.

So where possible, try to use Amazon product images on your lenses and link them directly to the product, this one will probably depend on your niche though.

3 - Amazon Spotlight Modules (& Good Descriptions)
For some reason I never liked using this module (I think I was just too lazy to come up with a 'sales pitch' to but in the description). This module was probably the biggest contributor to my sales boost and should come as no surprise to most people as HQ is constantly pushing the use of this module (and why not).

4 - Related Products
Something I try to do on lenses that just don't attract buyers. For example I have a lens which features a collection of games like Moshi Monsters (a popular game for kids). Of course kids aren't going to buy anything through my lens but if I feature some Moshi Monster merchandise that the child visits and their parents are a regular Amazon shopper then I can get credit for the sales.

January Squidoo Payday!

Another great Squidoo payday, nothing like seeing that blue box pop into your dashboard.

I saw a 5% increase my earnings, nothing like the massive increases I've seen in previous months but thats because my earnings had tanked last month (all the lenses that were moving up the tiers are now in their respective tiers).

Since during the later parts of the year I make very little lenses my earnings don't really increase that much, I get most of my growth early-mid year. Late year growth is generally entirely Squidoo payment increases (even though earnings went down alittle).

I'm expecting a poor payment next month as always due to my lack of Christmas lenses.

Back To Making Squidoo Lenses

After taking a brief break from Squidoo to make some more pages on my two squeeze pages for PrizeRebel (GAFF and UGC). I'm back to making Squidoo lenses (yay).

Its been nearly a whole month since I created some lenses and this was the first time I used the new workshop (since the responsive changes). I had read that the workshop got abit buggy after the changes but its now fixed, not sure what that was about since I never experienced it.

Back to the point these two lenses are all about my games like series again and I had forgotten how much I love this lens niche of mine, I get to play plenty of great games and write about them on Squidoo.

I've got 33 more WIP lenses which I am hoping to finish most by the end of January which I think is just possible considering I'm on holidays from university and are putting in 12-14hr days on Squidoo. If I am 'in the zone' I can finish most of these lenses in 6-10hrs depending on the lens so I can probably average 1.5 lenses a day.

Its a big ask but I pulled off a similar goal last year and I enjoyed the benefits from my hard work all year round so I would love to do it again.

Looking Back On 2012 & Forward To 2013

It's been a while since I made a blog post because I've been busy working on updating old lenses and finding some new niches. But I thought I better come back to make the standard 'new years resolution' blog post.

So lets start by looking back at 2012; During the year I grew my online income by 600% (I wish I could do this every year) thanks to all the hard work and effort I put in during the year. It was also the first year that Squidoo and my other online ventures was my job (having quit my old job in February) and I couldn't be more happier with the result.

Looking forward to 2013, I plan to publish around 100 lenses while also building some more sales orientated niches. I'm also hoping to grow my YouTube channel (currently at 1000 subscribers) and combine it with my videos to boost online earnings. Finally, I plan to launch a website (and not just a referral squeeze page, which are the only websites I have made thus far).

I think my goals are pretty straight forward, I've got the framework but working towards them will be the hard part.
